This year’s KFTRA/KNH housing Conference, held on 14th September at the Galpharm Centre, was well attended by both tenant representatives and housing officers. Delegates to the conference have said that they came away from the event with a renewed sense of purpose and a feeling that, by working together, it would be possible to overcome the many challenges which are facing the social housing sector.
The guest speaker for the conference was Michael Gelling OBE, Chair of TAROE (Tenants & Residents Organisations of England). Michael inspired the audience with his passion and common sense approach to tenant participation.
Following on from the morning presentations conference delegates were able to take part in two of four workshops:
Fairer Futures – Reforms to Social Housing
Localism Bill
Welfare Reform
Tenant-Led Budgets
Feedback from these workshops will be available shortly from KNH.
After lunch Cora Carter MBE, Chair of KFTRA & KNH, took the opportunity to remind people of how the tenant movement in Kirklees has developed over the years. Cora gave a presentation which highlighted all the hard work and dedication which had gone on in the past.
The final part of the conference was a Q & A session hosted by members of KNH Senior. Feedback from this session can be found in the October issue of Home Truths.
