Cliff Whiteley was one of the founder members of Kirklees Federation and led the way for the organisation for many years. He was Chair of the federation from 1990 - 2006.
It was a sad loss to the tenant movement locally and nationally when Cliff lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, 26th April 2006.
A razor sharp mind, an instinctive sense of justice and a warm heart, are just some of the characteristics which made Cliff the unique person that he was.
Throughout all of this time Cliff has been a powerful and passionate advocate for tenants, determined that they should be given a 'real voice' in the future managment of their homes.
Cliff's work on behalf of the tenant movement has not been confined to the Kirklees area, over the years he has served on the Executive committe of TAROE (Tenants and Residents of England), the TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) Management Committee and as a Director of the National Tenants Resource Centre in Chester.
Despite Cliff's well deserved national reputation he never forgot his own local area and treated every with equal respect. Cliff's life has touched thousands of people and his genuine concern and interest in others has gained respect, admiration and friendship of everyone who has worked alongside him.
It is difficult to express how much he will be missed.
