Kirklees Federation of Tenants and Residents Associations is the umbrella organisation for all the Tenants and Residents Associations (TRAs) in the Kirklees area. The Federation was formed in 1987 by a number of tenant activists from the Kirklees area who were worried about the threat to the future of council housing.
At the present time there are 92 TRAs in the Kirklees area spread throughout the four housing neighbourshoods; Batley & Spen, Dewsbury, Huddersfield North and Huddersfield South.
The overall objectives of KFTRA remain the same as they were back in 1987:
Unite tenants and strengthen the tenants’ movement by supporting and developing TRAs.
Represent tenants’ views to Kirklees neighbourhood Housing (KNH), Kirklees Council and other relevant services and agencies
Defend and extend tenants’ rights and promote council housing
